HOW TO HANG A QUILT

	Select a spot out of direct sunlight. If that is impossible, consider installing a window film on your windows. It filters out up to 99% of the harmful ultraviolet rays. It is also energy efficient by helping keep the room cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It will also help prevent your drapes, carpeting, etc., from fading. Some of the companies that make this window film are 3M and Madico. Contact a window treatment company in your area.

Where the quilt pattern and location permit, the quilt should be turned at least twice a year. This distributes the weight evenly and puts less stress on the fibers.

We recommend the following methods of hanging a quilt.

1. Sew a sleeve onto the back of the quilt. Be sure you only sew into the backing of the quilt and not through to the front. A basting stitch is usually used. Then insert a curtain rod or wood dowel through the sleeve and attach to the wall. The curtain rod or dowel should be treated so as to prevent staining of the quilt.
2. Use a quilt hanger. Quilt hangers are essentially two long pieces of hard wood approxiamtely 2" wide. There are 4-5 wooden knobs that screw these two pieces together. One edge of the quilt is placed between the pieces of wood. There is nothing that penetrates the fibers of the quilt. It holds by gentle even pressure of the top board against the back board. They come sanded and ready to be painted or stained. Definitely the best method for quilts with a scalloped edge. It also makes it easier to turn the quilt frequently. 3. Drape the quilt over a fixed object such as a railing.
4. We do not recommend the use of velcro in hanging a quilt.
